Hedge Cutting and Trimming in Essex, Hertfordshire and London

From a yearly tidy to a conifer hedge that has got completely away from you. We cut hedges back, bring them down to a height you can manage, and take every cutting away.

Regular trims

A hedge kept on top of once or twice a year stays dense, neat and easy. We cut the faces and the top straight and square, and clear up after ourselves so you are not left raking for the rest of the weekend.

Hard reductions on overgrown hedges

Hedges left for a few years grow up and out fast, especially conifers and laurel. We reduce the height and cut the sides back, often in one visit. Some conifers will not regrow from bare old wood, so we will tell you how far yours can safely go.

Hedge and shrub removal

If a hedge has had its day, we can take it out completely, grind the stumps, and leave the ground ready for a fence, a new hedge or a border.

Common questions about hedge cutting & trimming

When should hedges be cut?

Most hedges are best trimmed once or twice a year, between late spring and early autumn. Avoid cutting while birds are nesting, roughly March to August, unless you have checked there are no active nests, because it is an offence to disturb them.

Can you reduce the height of a tall conifer hedge?

Usually, yes. Conifers will take a reduction in height, but most will not grow back from bare brown wood on the sides, so how far they can be cut back matters. We will tell you on the visit.

Do you take the cuttings away?

Yes, always. Every cutting is cleared and taken away, and the ground under the hedge is raked.
